Just seen an image on the internet connected to Sarah Lucas' work. I've been looking more into the artist and she has done some truly controversial and thought provoking work, breaking boundaries of social etiquette. She promotes the unspeakable and dark shadows that your nan would scar you for bringing up at her candle light dinners! Her work makes me giggle with the clever placing of house hold objects and food with the cheeky puns she names her work with.
From scribbling a penis into the wooden desk she sat at when studying at the working men's college, then London College of printing and then to Goldsmiths college it seem her understanding of life has escalated and appeared as one of the Young British Artists in the 1990s.
What I love about Sarah's work is that its daring, its different, its not a nicely painted bowl of fruit but a slap in the face of the weird and wonderful in life. Its not all full of rainbows a penises, with her clever piece called Chicken Knickers she says its about a woman's role towards men. Her piece 'is suicide genetic?' defines how things can have a serious influence on people and how they can just self-destruct. Sarah is very anti smoking and i think she linked her toilet made from cigarettes to 'is suicide genitic?' to show how smoking can kill. Sarah Lucas has a flare for breaking down social etiquette and the unspoken, her work really impresses me and would love to maybe try something similar down the line.
